Doc. MUDr. Adela Penesová, PhD runs a non-state diabetology clinic and specialises mainly in the management of patients with extreme obesity. She is also involved in research on obesity and related diseases. She teaches at the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Comenius University and is a researcher at the Biomedical Centre of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Institute of Clinical and Translational Research. In 2008-2010 she worked at the National Institute of Health (NIH), Obesity and Diabetes Research Branch (Phoenix, AZ, USA). She is the author or co-author of more than 100 scientific and peer-reviewed publications, h-index 17. She is the President of the Slovak Association for Nutrition and Prevention (SAVP). In June 2024 she was awarded the National Clinical Fellow in Obesity Management by the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) as the only one in Slovakia.
